Covid Cripples Singapore Aviation

In 2020, when the Corona virus swept swiftly across the world, Singapore did not remain unscathed. Changi Airport, winner of numerous “Best Airport” accolades, was badly affected. Along with it, Jewel, which had opened in April 2019, took a hit, too. Jewel, with its easy accessibility from all four terminals was built to maintain Changi’s major aviation hub status in the Asia-Pacific.
During most of Covid-19, Jewel was open to the public. Although only terminals 1 and 3 were operational, the number of flights had been reduced to a trickle. The once-bustling terminals looked like ghost towns. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, arriving passengers were not allowed into Jewel. This meant the mega mall-cum-entertainment hub had to depend sorely on the patronage of the public.
My pictures convey a sense of the unnatural quiet Covid-19's nasty shadow had cast on Singapore’s pride and joy
— the award-winning Changi Airport and its gem, Jewel.
