I had driven past the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station countless times. But, made very few train journeys from there to Malaysia in my lifetime. Never did I imagine that one day, this iconic railway station, which was officially opened on 2 May 1932, would cease operations. But, it did! The last train left the station on 30 June 2011. Four years later, the national monument was opened to the public for a limited period of time. True to human nature, when something is or about to be “no more”, a keen interest in it comes to the fore. Loads of people — myself included — turned up at the defunct railway station to visit this landmark and capture remnants of it for posterity.
