From the railway station, it is only a ten-minute walk to Yorkminster Cathedral in the charming, historic city of York.
One of the oldest cities in England, its beginnings can be traced back to AD71 when the Romans — already in other parts of England — set up camp here. Among York's invaders were the Saxons, Vikings and Normans.
Yorkminster Cathedral, standing at an impressive 72-metres, dominates the square, and its three towers can be seen from afar. Other attractions include The Shambles — reminiscent of Diagon Alley in the famed Harry Potter movies — and the Jorvik Centre. Here, you can get on a ride back in time to a Viking settlement, complete with life-like mannequins, life-size dioramas, sounds and smells.
York is an ancient city with a young heart.
