New Zealand

My first self-drive trip abroad was an Autumn holiday in New Zealand, back in the 1980s. It required meticulous planning, and navigating both islands using road maps. It was magnificent!
Coming from a flat, small island, the drive was, at times, challenging and very stressful — especially around mountainous areas with very steep and winding roads, and sharp bends. But, exciting all the same! I loved the beauty and tranquility of the countryside and the friendliness of the people. When South Island beckoned me back in the Autumn of 2000, the scenic views were still breathtaking!
These trips were made during the days of film cameras and printed photographs. Sadly, over time, colour photographs fade. My large prints of South Island fared better, and I digitised them. Here are some. They evoke very fond memories of my holidays in New Zealand.
